What Is A Network Management System NMS?
A combination of hardware and software that is used to monitor and administer a network is called a network management system NMS. There are many NMS's on the market today such as Novell. Depending on the needs of the company will determine what kind of network management system NMS they would need.
The Network management system NMS can refer to the activities, methods, tools, and procedures that pertain to the networked systems and its operation, maintenance, administration, or provisioning. These four factors are the main design of the network management system NMS.
The Operation factor of the network management system NMS deals with how the network runs. Making sure everything runs smoothly and watching for any kind of faults that may occur during the operation and trying to catch and fix these faults before any users on the network are affected by them.
The administration factor of the network management system NMS deals with all of the tracking of the resources that are found on the network and how they are assigned through the users of the network. This factor keeps the network under control in order for it to be clutter free. The maintenance factor of the network management system NMS deals with the upgrades and the repairs that are needed for the network such as when there is a piece of equipment on the network that needs to be replaced or a router that needs an upgrade for an operating system image. The maintenance is also used for adjusting device configuration parameters so that the managed network will run more smoothly. The provisioning factor of the network management system NMS configures the resources in the network to support any given service that may come along such as a new customer that may need some sort of service provided by the network but needs to comply with the customer's needs and system. All the functions that take place in a network management system NMS are controlling, planning, allocating, deploying, coordinating, and monitoring the resources of a network, network planning, frequency allocation, and predetermined traffic routing to support load balancing. Other functions include cryptographic key distribution authorization, configuration management, accounting management, bandwidth management, performance management, security management, and fault management. There are many factors that deal with a network management system NMS but without this type of service for companies, information would be as hard to keep track of and to find as a needle in a haystack.
